A voice-over is a layer of voice added over video content. Voice-overs might be added to any video and can be either synchronous or asynchronous. Synchronous voice-overs narrate what’s going on in the video step-by-step, whereas asynchronous voice-overs explain the overall content.

Voice-overs are often used as an alternative to a full dubbing. The difference being that in a voice-over, the original soundtrack is still present.
